We May See a New Casino Near Penn State Open Next Year

Pennsylvania lawmakers are currently working to significantly expand the state’s casino industry. Part of that plan is to open “mini-casinos” in different cities. According to new reports, we may see a new casino near Penn State open its doors next year.Pennsylvania Highlighted on Map

It’s interesting news to hear. There are clearly many companies still interested in opening casinos here. Today, we’re going to talk about the details of this proposed mini-casino.

Let’s get into it!

Pennsylvania’s Casino Industry is Slowly Coming Back to Life

Pennsylvania’s leaders ordered all of the state’s casinos to shut down back in March. It was a complete turn from where the state was heading. Prior to the shutdowns, Pennsylvania had been working hard to expand its gambling industry.

Revenue from this industry plummeted for months. According to a new report from The Allegheny Institute, casinos in the state lost out on an incredible $968.8 million. That is the biggest revenue drop since the state legalized Class III casinos.

Online gambling regulations slightly helped to alleviate this revenue loss. Online casino revenue jumped from $13.9 million in January of this year to $50 million in June. That’s an astounding 258.6% increase.

Casinos in Pennsylvania slowly started to open their doors again in June. Thousands of residents in the state were finally able to work again. Since that time, revenue from this industry has been slowly increasing.

Things are far from normal. It may be more than a year before casino revenue gets back to the levels it was in 2019. That isn’t stopping the state from working to expand this industry, though. Many new mini-casinos are scheduled to open here over the next few years.

It now appears that a location for the state’s next mini-casino has been chosen.

Ira Lubert Plans to Open a New Casino Near Penn State

Pennsylvania continues to search for individuals and companies that will operate new mini-casinos. This week, the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board held an auction for a license to run one of these venues. Ira Lubert won the bid at $10 million and immediately offered some insight into where this gaming venue will be located.

Many were surprised to hear that Ira Lubert, an investor with a successful history of casino operations in the state, plans to open the new casino near Penn State. The most probable venue for this casino is the Nittany Mall in College Township, just minutes away from Penn State’s flagship campus.

This is not a done deal, though. Lubert must officially file a casino application within six months to become eligible to open this venue. He’ll also need to provide the state with details on the building plan, amenities, and employment projections.

Five mini-casino licenses have already been awarded this year. None have opened yet. Only the Live! Casino Pittsburgh is scheduled to open this year. Many feel that 2021 will be a big year for this newly-emerging industry.

Some feel that Pennsylvania will grow to become the next major gambling destination on the East Coast. As we just mentioned, five new mini-casinos are scheduled to open here over the next couple of years. These venues can hold up to 750 slot machines and 40 table games.

We’re likely to hear more about Lubert’s proposed casino over the next few weeks. Some feel there will be major opposition to opening a casino so close to a college campus. Make sure to stay tuned for updates!

Online Casino Gambling and Sports Betting Continues to Grow in Pennsylvania

Lawmakers in Pennsylvania have been looking at sports betting regulation for years. In 2017, the state approved a bill to regulate this industry, yet PASPA prevented the state from formally legalizing it. PASPA was removed in 2018 and sports betting was formally made legal in Pennsylvania immediately after.

2017 marked a major change in the state’s gambling laws. This year, lawmakers also approved a measure to legalize online casino gambling. These two industries have been surging throughout 2020.

Online sports betting revenue has been gradually increasing for years. The same can be said for internet casino revenue. Pennsylvania’s expanded gambling laws have actually pushed other nearby states to look at updating their regulations, as well.

The first legal sports wager was placed in New York in mid-2019. Many lawmakers in New York have been considering allowing online casino gambling, as well. These calls to expand gambling laws have intensified now that the state is desperate for additional forms of revenue.

Pennsylvania may even decide to allow more forms of gambling. Additional casinos are set to open here over the next few years, including the new casino near Penn State. It will be interesting to see how successful these venues become.

Do you think Ira Lubert will be allowed to open this mini-casino near Penn State’s flagship campus? Let us know in the comments section below!

What’s Going On With Pennsylvania’s Casino Industry?

There are nearly 20 gambling venues spread around the state of Pennsylvania. Some of these are stand-alone casinos offering a wide range of different gambling options. Others are racinos, offering casino games inside horse race tracks. Unfortunately, the shutdown of Pennsylvania’s casino industry cost the state a massive amount of revenue over the past few months.Pennsylvania Street Sign

Casinos here are slowly getting back on track. Things are far from normal, though. Today, we’re going to look at how much money was lost due to the shutdown of casinos here. We’ll also talk about how these revenue losses may rebound.

Let’s get into it!

Most of Pennsylvania’s Casinos Have Now Reopened

Pennsylvania has a large and successful casino industry. In March, state leaders here ordered all of their gambling venues to completely shut down. It wasn’t surprising news. All other states around the country ordered their casinos to close down, as well.

Casino companies here immediately expressed their concern. Initially, it was unclear how long it would take for casinos to reopen. The months went on and all of this state’s casinos remained closed down to the public.

As many already know, Pennsylvania is one of the few states with legal online casinos. These casino gambling platforms grew extremely popular during the casino shutdown. Many residents here continued to call for land-based restrictions to be lifted, though.

Fortunately, most casinos in PA are now open. In May, state leaders began allowing casinos to accept guests again. Intense safety measures remain set in place inside all of these venues. That includes separating players at table games and requiring masks.

Gambling fans in this state are happy to see this change. Casino revenue has been slowly increasing since casinos started opening in May and June. Now, many analysts are looking back at the impact keeping casinos closed had on the state.

Many are surprised to see how much money the state lost due to the casino closures.

The Shutdown of Pennsylvania’s Casino Industry Cost Hundreds of Millions

The land-based casino took a tremendous hit over the past six months. Even now, the vast majority of casinos around the country are seeing major dips in revenue earnings. Pennsylvania’s casino industry is struggling to stay afloat.

Recently, reports surfaced that show how much money was lost once casinos were shut down. The casinos themselves missed out on an estimated $968.8 million. It’s being said that the state lost out on an incredible $424 million via taxes from this industry.

Pennsylvania is known for having extremely high tax rates on casinos. Analysts within The Allegheny Institute, who published this report, shed light on how internet casinos managed to bring the state some much-needed revenue.

“Call it intuition or just plain luck that internet gaming made its debut in Pennsylvania casinos in July 2019,” the report states. “While not all casinos in Pennsylvania offer online gaming options, for those that do, total internet gaming revenue (including online table games, internet slot machines and online poker) jumped from $13.9 million in January 2020 to $50 million in June, an increase of 258.6 percent.”

State leaders are guaranteed to take notice of this revenue loss. It seems that many failed to realize how important the casino industry really was for the state. Fortunately, revenue is increasing now that casinos here have begun accepting guests again.

Will more states begin looking into the legalization of online casino gambling now?

Online Casino Regulation Can Bring States Valuable Revenue

Prior to the shutdown in March, the US gambling industry was thriving. Casinos continued to see their earnings increase. States with regulated sports betting options saw revenue from this industry surging, as well.

As casinos started shutting down, states realized how important these venues really are. Obviously, casinos employ a huge number of state residents. They also bring the state and local communities large amounts of money every month.

Only a few states have regulated online casino options right now. That seems likely to change soon. State leaders across the country are seeing how much revenue a regulated internet casino industry can bring in.

Some feel that Nevada needs to begin allowing online casino gambling. Casinos here started to reopen in June. Cities like Las Vegas are now back up and running, yet casino revenue remains significantly lower than it was in 2019.

The regulation of online casinos can help to turn things around. We’ll need to wait and see how state officials here move forward with online gambling plans over the next six months.

Thousands of Slot Machines in Missouri May Soon Shut Down

Missouri is home to a huge number of slot gambling machines. As Covid-19 continues to spread around the state, lawmakers are beginning to discuss whether or not they should be able to run. According to new reports, thousands of slot machines in Missouri may soon shut down due to concerns about the coronavirus.

Missouri Casinos

Scientists are still learning about this virus. We now know that it can survive for days on a surface, waiting to infect others. Today, we’re going to look at the gambling laws in Missouri, and discuss why lawmakers here are getting rid of the slot gambling machines.

Let’s get into it!

Missouri’s Gambling Laws, Explained

For decades, Missouri had a large and successful casino industry. Unfortunately, things took a turn in the early 1900s when lawmakers decided to officially close all casinos and bingo halls. It wasn’t until 1980 that state officials started to allow bingo gambling once again.

There are now many casinos operating in Missouri right now. Some of these are riverboat casinos. Others are gambling venues based on land. These casinos help to bring the state millions of dollars every single year.

Over the past few years, lawmakers in this state have seen a huge rise in illegal gambling machines. There are now many slot machines in Missouri that are located in gas stations, bars, and restaurants. Eventually, state officials decided to crack down on these machines.

Earlier this month, Senate Bill 566 was introduced to allow state-regulated gaming machines to operate in the state. Lawmakers realize that people are playing through these machines. By regulating them, at least the state is earning money.

There are still a huge number of illegal slots operating in this state, though. This week, officials announced they were interested in cracking down on the rogue slot machines.

Gaming Commission Wants to Crack Down on Slot Machines in Missouri

According to some reports, more than 14,000 illegal slot machines are now operating in Missouri. Many of these gaming machines are located in gas stations. The Missouri Gaming Commission is now claiming that these slots pose a serious health risk.

According to the Commission, these are not being cleaned regularly. In fact, they may be the perfect machines to spread Covid-19. The group is now asking for state and local health departments to shut all of these machines down.

Mike Winter, executive director of the association, released a statement about this to the media.

“Often lined up one right next to the other in gas stations and other establishments, the cleanliness of these illegal and unregulated slot machines is questionable,” he said. “We believe the state should shut down these illegal slot machines, for the safety of our residents.”

This certainly makes sense. Many have overlooked how the unregulated slot machines in Missouri may be helping to spread the coronavirus. With the state’s real casinos now closed, these machines have actually grown more popular.

It’s unclear if the state will grant this request. Infection rates of Covid-19 are beginning to increase in Missouri. If the Gaming Commission can convince the state that these machines are to blame, we’ll see them gone in no time at all.

Online Slot Games Are Available in Missouri

It’s clear that many individuals in Missouri enjoy gambling. The state’s casinos bring in serious every single month. Even the slot machines in Missouri that are operating under the radar are popular with locals.

Soon, these slots may be shut down. Fortunately, there are a huge number of amazing online casinos in Missouri that offer more slots than some of the biggest land-based casinos in the country. Most of them are completely safe.

The popularity of internet casino gambling has increased here for years. Now that the state’s brick-and-mortar casinos are shut down, these online casinos are attracting even more players from around Missouri.

This is a tough time for the entire country. As of today, more than 500 individuals in the state have tested positive for Covid-19. This number is likely to increase drastically over the next few weeks.

No one expects land-based casinos to open up anytime soon. That means online casinos are the only real gambling options available here. Check out some of the sites to see what gambling options are here.

Almost All US Casinos Are Now Officially Closed

As of today, more than 38,000 individuals have been infected with Covid-19 in the United States. Several parts of the country are experiencing huge surges in infections including New York and New Jersey. The quick spread of this virus has led to nearly all US casinos closing their doors to the public.Map of the US

It’s clear that the US land-based gambling industry is in trouble. No one can say when casinos in the country can begin operating again. Today, we’re going to look back at when these casinos began to close and discuss when we might see things improve.

Let’s get into it!

Covid-19 Has Now Infected More than 38,000 Americans

As scientists have been claiming for months, the new coronavirus that emerged in China has a unique ability to spread. Infection rates in Europe have been jumping massively. In early March, we began to see rates in the United States start to increase quickly.

At the beginning of the month, less than 100 cases were confirmed in the US. A week later, this number surpassed 1,000. Today, we’re closing in on 40,000 Americans confirmed infected with Covid-19. Unless something changes, we’ll see a million cases in the country within two months.

It’s extremely troubling. Government officials recognize that testing is not where it should be. For this reason, many believe a huge number of people now have the coronavirus but have not been officially diagnosed.

We’re also seeing many choosing now to abide by state regulations. Lawmakers are requesting that people stay at home to practice social distancing. Unfortunately, there are many that are not following these rules.

Many industries are being hit hard, including the land-based gambling industry. Almost all US casinos around the country are now closed down, including ones in Las Vegas. The American Gaming Association is now pointing this out to Congress.

AGA Claims that 90% of US Casinos Are Shut Down

The United States has a large and successful casino industry. Many states allow gambling venues to operate, either tribal-run or commercial. Land-based casinos help to bring many states and cities millions of dollars in revenue every single year.

Unfortunately, the spread of Covid-19 has forced the vast majority of casinos to close down. Obviously, these venues pose a serious danger for quick infection spread. State governments have no other choice than to shut them down.

The AGA claims that 92% of all US casinos are now shut down. That’s 910 land-based casinos all around the country. A spokesperson for the AGA believes that this has already affected more than 642,000 individuals.

Bill Miller, President and CEO of the AGA, gave a statement about this situation to Congress this week.

“The federal government must act swiftly and comprehensively to get America’s hospitality employees, and the small businesses that support them, back to work,” he said. “Gaming employees, their families, and communities are bearing the brunt of this economic standstill and will continue to suffer if Congress and the administration don’t take immediate action.”

Despite the AGA’s request, though, it’s unlikely that anything will change soon. Infection rates continue to rise around the country. Until this changes, US casinos will be forced to remain closed.

Online Casino Gambling Grows More Popular

It’s a very tough time for the US land-based casino industry. In many states, however, online casino gambling is now regulated. In these parts of the country, gambling revenue is still coming in.

Even in states without regulated casino markets, this industry is still growing more popular. There are now a huge number of fantastic online casino sites in the US. Many of them offer more gambling options than the biggest land-based casinos in the country.

Some of these sites offer sports wagering options, as well. Of course, the majority of sports leagues are now shut down around the world, too. These sites will allow their members to bet on other things like Esports and entertainment.

As more casinos stay closed, online casino gambling will grow more popular. Many people still want to place bets and these sites offer the perfect platform to do so.

It remains to be seen how long US casinos will be shut down for. Many major casino companies are now requesting emergency aid from Congress. Unless something is done, many of these companies will go bankrupt.

All Mississippi Casinos Close Due to Coronavirus Fears

Mississippi is the newest state to introduce additional regulations for land-based casinos. Soon, all of the state’s gambling venues are closing their doors to the public. It’s tough news for casino operators here, many of whom contribute massively to the state economy.Mississippi State Seal

It’s not entirely surprising. Casinos all around the country are being forced to shut down. In some areas, bars and restaurants are closing, as well. Today, we’re going to discuss how these new casino rules will affect Mississippi.

States Continue to Set Regulations For Covid-19

In just a few days, the rates of Covid-19 have skyrocketed in the United States. Due to a lack of testing options, it’s likely that the true number of infected individuals is considerably higher. There’s really no way of knowing, which has led to the virus’ spread around the country.

Over the past 24 hours, a huge number of new regulations have been set in place. California, in particular, is announcing some of the heaviest restrictions. In the San Francisco Bay Area, individuals are now required by law to stay in their homes.

Nevada is also being hit hard. Recently, all major casino resorts were forced to close here. It’s devastating to the state’s economy, which relies heavily on tourism and gambling.

New York is also taking strict measures. Here, all schools have been officially shut down. Governor Cuomo has also required all of the state’s casinos to shut down.

Every few minutes, new regulations are being announced. Several measures are also being considered by the federal government. This includes a ban on domestic travel and closing the north and south borders. We’ll need to wait and see how things escalate over the next few days.

Mississippi Casinos Are Closing to the Public This Week

Mississippi is known for having a large and successful casino industry. All of the state’s gambling venues are located on the coast. Today, news broke that all of the state’s gaming venues are officially being closed down.

The Mississippi Gaming Commission has ordered all casinos in the state to shut down. It’s still unclear when these venues will open back up.

Bill Hornbuckle, MGM Chief Operating Officer and President, spoke to the media about the situation earlier today.

“We will work to mitigate the impact this will have on our employees, partners and communities,” he said. “We will continue monitoring the situation and announce plans for reopening when appropriate.”

Mississippi is now one of many states to officially close down all casinos. The entire US land-based gambling industry is taking a serious hit. Unsurprisingly, many individuals are now choosing to make their bets online.

Online Gambling Options Available in Mississippi

The casinos in Mississippi are hugely popular with both locals and tourists. Some of these gambling venues are owned by major Las Vegas-based casino companies including MGM Resorts International. The closure of these venues will be devastating for these companies.

Fortunately for gambling fans in this state, there are still a huge number of fantastic Mississippi casino sites operating. One of the most popular is Bovada. This site offers a wide range of fantastic games and safe, easy payment options.

Members of this site can find just about all casino games including blackjack, roulette, and poker. There are also some great sport wagering options available through Bovada. Many sports leagues have been suspended, yet odds on the events still taking place are available!

There are many fantastic online casino options in Mississippi right now. Feel free to check out Bovada today to see all of the games being offered here. It may be months before any land-based Mississippi casinos open again.

This is a tough time around the world. Unfortunately, the situation is likely to get worse before it gets better. Stay tuned for more US casino news over the next few months!

Cases of the Coronavirus in Casinos Are Appearing

Covid-19, the novel coronavirus that’s become a global pandemic, continues to spread around the United States. It’s likely that several thousand individuals are now infected in the country, yet exact rates are completely unknown. This week, more cases of the coronavirus in casinos are beginning to appear.Encore Boston Harbor Hotel-Casino

The gambling industry is already taking a major hit. Additional cases aren’t helping to make things any better. Today, we’re going to discuss the way this new virus continues to affect the world.

Let’s get into it!

More Covid-19 Cases Confirmed Around the US

In early March, very few cases of the novel coronavirus had been confirmed in the United States. Less than two weeks later, we now have at least 1,200 cases and likely many thousands more that have not been confirmed. Every day, more states announced additional cases.

Today, for example, Kansas and Georgia announced their first deaths from the virus. Alaska revealed its first case. Nevada has cases already, too. It’s become clear to health officials that early testing efforts in the country failed and we’re now dealing with the consequences.

Several states are being hit hard. Washington is still considered the worst-affected state with more than 450 cases and 31 deaths. California is also seeing a considerably steep rise in infections.

This will not slow down anytime soon. In fact, health experts now feel the US is on a similar trajectory as Italy. If that’s correct, the country will soon begin seeing its hospitals put under extreme strain.

The sky is not falling, though. If the correct measures are taken, the country will be able to better contain the virus and hopefully, a vaccine is developed to protect the public. For now, we’re having to wait as more infections are reported.

More Cases of the Coronavirus in Casinos Pop Up

In 2013, lawmakers in Massachusetts passed a law to allow Class III casinos to begin operating in the state. Within a few years, MGM Resorts International opened the state’s first casino. A few years after that, Wynn Resorts opened the Encore Boston Harbor in Everett, near Boston.

According to new reports, an individual who spent time in the Encore Boston Harbor has tested positive for the coronavirus. This is exactly what major casino-resort companies had feared. The Massachusetts Gaming Commission has already released a statement about the situation.

“DPH recommends that Encore continue its enhanced sanitization practices.  Additionally, Encore has reported that, out of an abundance of caution, all identified individuals have agreed to self-quarantine measures. Public health authorities have informed the MGC and Encore that, based on their review of the facts, the individual was asymptomatic (not exhibiting symptoms) on March 5.  Consequently, DPH has advised that the risk of exposure to COVID-19 by persons who came into contact with this individual at Encore is minimal.”

Despite new cases of the coronavirus in casinos within Massachusetts, the state’s gambling industry continues to operate. How much revenue these gambling establishments are earning right now is unknown.

This is a troubling time and more casinos are likely to report cases over the next few weeks. In time, states may decide that it’s time to ban all casinos from allowing the public in.

Future of the US Casino Industry

As you might expect, casinos around the country are already seeing their numbers drop. As more cases of the coronavirus are announced, less individuals are choosing to visit crowded areas such as casinos. Some fear that the entire casino industry here is in danger of failing.

Just days ago, reports surfaced that an individual with the coronavirus had visited The Mirage casino-resort in Las Vegas. The city’s mayor recently claimed that media reports of the virus were significantly damaging the tourism industry here.

That doesn’t mean it’s impossible to play casino games, though. There are still many online casino sites in the US that are operating. These allow you to play games from anywhere with an internet connection.

It seems likely that the US online casino industry may grow over the next couple of months.

This is a very unusual time for the country. The spread of this virus is almost unprecedented and scientists are still trying to learn about its effects.

Time will tell how the news additional cases of the coronavirus will affect the country’s gambling industry. Stay tuned for updates over the next few months!

Connecticut’s Gambling Industry Set for Major Expansion

Connecticut isn’t typically thought of as a gambling hub. Fortunately, lawmakers here have taken a fairly relaxed approach to the gaming industry. A major new piece of legislation has recently been introduced here, meaning Connecticut’s gambling industry may soon expand dramatically.Flag Of Connecticut

It’s extremely exciting for both casino and sports betting fans in the state. Lawmakers here clearly recognize the massive revenue potential from the gambling industry. Today, we’re going to look at the state’s current laws, and talk about how they might evolve over the next year or two.

Current Gambling Laws in Connecticut, Explained

As we already mentioned, Connecticut is thought of today as a pretty liberal state when it comes to gambling. Today, most traditional forms of gambling are perfectly legal here. A couple of popular land-based casinos operate in this state, one of which is located in Ledyard and the other in Uncasville.

Both of these casinos are run by Native American tribes. These tribes were given permission to open the gambling venues after the Supreme Court passed the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act in the late 1980s. They now pay 25% of their slot revenue to the state.

For years, tribal leaders in Connecticut have been pushing to open a new casino in East Windsor. Unfortunately, the state has pushed against these plans, pointing out the fact that East Windsor is not sovereign land. It’s a complicated issue that continues today.

Certain lawmakers in this state have also been pushing to allow sports betting. Since May of 2018, every state in the country has been able to set its own laws on sports gambling. As of now, more than 20 states have chosen to legalize this form of gambling.

Expanded casino and sports betting laws are now officially being considered in Connecticut. If everything plays out correctly, Connecticut’s gambling industry is going to expand significantly.

Legislation to Expand Connecticut’s Gambling Industry is Introduced

More states are beginning to look closer at their set of gambling laws. Ever since PASPA was removed, lawmakers across the country have begun to realize how much revenue can be obtained through legal sports betting and casino gambling options. This is now the case with Connecticut, as well.

This week, members of the Senate Democratic majority began pressuring Governor Ned Lamont to expand Connecticut’s gambling industry. These Senate leaders officially endorsed a piece of legislation that would allow the state’s Native American tribes to offer sports betting inside casinos.

The bill would also allow for a new casino to be constructed in Bridgeport.

Lawmakers here pushed for this gambling expansion plan last year. Unfortunately, Governor Lamont struck these plans down. Senator Cathy Osten drafted this year’s legislation and believes that it will benefit the state in the long run. Senator Dennis Bradley agrees.

“This is about making sure that moving forward, everybody has a slice of the pie, that we don’t put people against each other,” Bradley said.

Lamont and his team have not yet commented on the new plans. We’ll need to wait and see if he offers any objections over the next few months.

Online Casino Options Are Already Available in Connecticut

There are a huge number of individuals that are eagerly awaiting online gambling to become regulated in Connecticut. Many are unaware that internet casino options are already available! Some of the best US casino sites are already operating in Connecticut and most offer a massive range of wagering options.

None of Connecticut’s laws state that it’s illegal to play casino games online. The casino websites here are unregulated by the state government, yet the majority of them are perfectly safe and offer a variety of payment options.

The legislation introduced this week has the power to expand Connecticut’s gambling industry significantly. Interestingly, there’s a section of the bill that will allow for online casino games to be offered. If approved, the tribes will be able to provide internet casino gambling options to Connecticut players.

It seems very likely that sports betting will be approved here soon, as well. Most of the states with legal sports betting options are earning millions of dollars a month from the industry. Connecticut wants a piece of that action.

This is a very exciting time for gambling fans in this state. Make sure to stay tuned for updates over the next few months!

$100 Million Michigan Casino Expansion is Now Underway

States around the country are working hard to update their casino industries. Michigan, which is home to many Native American tribal casinos, is looking at plans to earn more revenue from its gambling market. This week, the Gun Lake Tribe officially got started on its $100 million Michigan casino expansion project.Gun Lake Casino Logo

It’s exciting news for gambling fans in the Western Michigan area. Today, we’re going to take a quick look at Michigan’s gambling industry. We’ll also talk about what the Gun Lake Tribe has planned for its casino. Let’s get started!

Michigan’s Casino Industry in a Nutshell

Michigan isn’t typically thought of as a US gambling hub, but perhaps it should be. There are a huge number of gambling venues in this state, many of which are full-blown casino-resorts. It’s clear that lawmakers are investing in this industry and want to earn as much money in taxes as possible.

In the 1980s, state officials began allowing Native American tribes to start operating limited gambling venues. At first, these “casinos” could only offer players games such as Keno and bingo. In 1996, lawmakers decided it was time to legalize full-scale casino gambling.

Michigan officially decided to make commercial casinos legal that year. Plans were approved to allow three casinos in downtown Detroit. In 1999, the first of these casinos opened its doors to the public.

As we’ve already mentioned, there are now many incredible casino gambling establishments in this state.  The Gun Lake Tribe has been discussing plans to expand its casino for years. Now, this expansion project is officially underway.

Gun Lake Tribe’s $100 Michigan Casino Expansion Begins

The Gun Lake Casino in Wayland, MI, is an extremely popular venue for gamblers in the western area of the state. Unfortunately, it’s become a little outdated over the years. An increase in nearby competition has also contributed to the casino generating less revenue.

This week, officials within the Gun Lake Tribe confirmed that their $100 million Michigan casino expansion is officially underway. According to the tribe, it will add about 76,000 square feet of gaming space to the casino floor. More than 2,000 slot machines, 47 table games, and a high-limit room are also being added.

Tribal Chairman Bob Peters commented on the new plans to the media this weekend.

“We are proud of the effort of our team members that has driven the continued success of Gun Lake Casino and our Tribe’s contributions to Michigan’s economy in the last eight years,” he said. “These expansion plans allow us to build on these efforts and provide even more employment opportunities and increased economic impact in our local communities.”

This expansion will also double the size of the casino’s entertainment area. Hope is that it helps to bring in better shows to the venue.

Michigan Lawmakers Still Hesitant to Embrace Sports Betting

When PASPA was struck down in May of 2018, many analysts predicted that Michigan would be one of the first states to legalize this form of gambling. Sports betting legislation was introduced here, yet it’s failed to be formally enacted.

The proposed bill would allow any holder of a casino license to “accept wagers on sporting events.” The state’s gaming board would be required to regulate this industry. The bill was briefly approved by the state’s legislature, yet Governor Gretchen Whitmer vetoed it.

It still seems likely that sports gambling will be made legal here at some point. Many of the states with legal sports betting markets are earning millions of dollars a month from this industry. As a state with so many legal casino gambling options, it would make no sense to continue prohibiting sports betting.

There’s also a chance that online casino gambling will become regulated here in the future. At the moment, there are a huge number of online casinos in MI that are available. Lawmakers attempted to regulate this industry earlier this year, yet once again, Governor Whitmer shut these plans down.

The new Michigan casino expansion is underway. We’ll need to wait and see how effective it is as drawing in more gamblers for the Gun Lake Tribe.

Massachusetts Casino Revenue Dips in September

Massachusetts is just beginning to embrace the casino industry. There are a few major gambling hubs here, all of which are fiercely competitive with each other. Unfortunately, new reports indicate that Massachusetts casino revenue fell in September. Massachusetts State Symbol

Today, we’ll be looking at the expansion of Massachusetts’ casino market. We will also talk about how much money these casinos managed to bring in last month. Let’s get into it!

More Casinos Begin to Open in Massachusetts

The US gambling industry has never been stronger. Many states around the country are beginning to liberalize their casino gambling laws and are experiencing massive revenue earnings as a result. Several major companies have begun looking at Massachusetts as a lucrative new casino market to break into.

Wynn Resorts is one such company. Back in June, Wynn opened the Encore Boston Harbor casino-resort in Everett, MA. The location was concerning for some; it was previously an unattractive industrial area.

Fortunately, Wynn Resorts’ new casino in Massachusetts has proven to be massively successful. It’s been generating major revenue for the company and state since opening its doors to the public. Encore Boston Harbor was also been outperforming the MGM Springfield gambling venue, which was once the most popular gaming hub in the state.

Many companies are now working to open gambling venues here. Over the next few years, two new venues could open their doors here including the Aquinnah Cliffs Casino and Project First Light Resort & Casino.

Some analysts believe that Massachusetts will become the next major casino destination in the US. Of course, even here gambling revenue can sometimes dip.

Massachusetts Casino Revenue Finally Drops

For a time, it looked like casinos in MA would continue to experience an increase in gambling revenue for the remainder of 2019. Multiple reports have now proven otherwise. Massachusetts casino revenue fell in September and companies are taking notice.

MGM Springfield experienced one of its worst months of the year. Overall gambling revenue fell by 5.1%. The gambling venue brought in $19.8 in September, a pretty significant decrease from the $20.9 million made in August.

Encore Boston Harbor experienced a dip in revenue, as well. According to the Massachusetts Gaming Commission, this casino-resort earned $48.9 million last month. $27 million came from slots and $21.8 million from table games. These revenue earnings also represent a pretty serious decrease from August, where the casino made $52 million.

There’s no real cause for concern, though. Many analysts have pointed out that September is always a less-profitable month than August. Many individuals experience the end of their summer vacations and head back to work.

It’s likely that Massachusetts casino revenue will bounce back this month. This state has never been earning more from its gambling industry and it’s only going to get better.

More Gambling Options Coming to MA

Many lawmakers in Massachusetts are interested in adding even more gambling options to the state. Since May of 2018, when PASPA was struck down, several politicians have called for sports betting to become legal and regulated here. State Representative Brad Hill gave his opinion on the matter to the media a few months ago.

“I want to get us up and running because there is another football season nearly upon us,” he said. “We’re missing a huge opportunity for revenue in this state. Massachusetts likes to gamble, we like our sports, and I should be able, as a citizen, to go bet on a football game. Why is this taking so long? We’re not reinventing the wheel here.”

Many are also calling for online casino gambling to become regulated here. Today, there are a huge number of great online casinos in MA available yet none are monitored by lawmakers in the state. Hope is that in time, this will change.

Massachusetts casino revenue has fallen yet the state still has one of the most lucrative gambling markets in the country. We’ll need to wait and see which new gambling options become available here in the future.

Lawmakers Consider Allowing a Casino in Eklutna, AK

Alaska is known for having some of the most restrictive gambling laws in the country. Today, there are almost no legal ways for residents of this state to make wagers. Recently, however, lawmakers here discussed the possibility of allowing a casino in Eklutna.

Flag Of Alaska

A prominent Native American tribe is arguing that this is sovereign land. One government body has rejected this notion. Let’s look at what exactly is happening here.

Gambling Laws in Alaska, Explained

As we’ve already mentioned, Alaska has some of the strictest gambling laws in the country. Section 11.66.270 of the State’s Statutes defines the legality of “games of chance.”

(1) “contest of chance” means a contest, game, gaming scheme, or gaming device in which the outcome depends in a material degree upon an element of chance, notwithstanding that the skill of the contestants may also be a factor.

(2) “gambling” means that a person stakes or risks something of value upon the outcome of a contest of chance or a future contingent event not under the person’s control or influence, upon an agreement or understanding that that person or someone else will receive something of value in the event of a certain outcome.

Today, there are no traditional casinos in this state. 2 Class II gambling venues are operating here, yet they are only able to offer bingo and pull-tab games.

Many gambling analysts believed that Alaska would never allow new gambling venues to open. To the surprise of many, another casino may soon be operating in the village of Eklutna.

Anchorage Mayor Supports Plans for a Casino in Eklutna

Eklutna is a native village in the Municipality of Anchorage. The Tribal Council estimates the population at just 70. Recently, officials in this village have pushed for the right to open a gambling venue.

Anchorage Mayor Ethan Berkowitz supports this idea. He commented on the opening of a casino to the media last year.

“The Municipality of Anchorage supports the (Native Village of Eklutna’s) goals of economic determination and believes both the tribe and the surrounding community will benefit from the jobs and related economic development the project will bring.”

Unfortunately, not everyone in the state feels the same way. In fact, Berkowitz’s opinion went largely unreported in Alaska. Late last year, Alaska’s Department of Interior ruled that the parcel of land that Eklunta residents want to build a casino on is “not Indian land.” The tribe here is now suing the Department of Interior over this opinion.

It seems likely that Eklunta will win this legal battle. The land is undoubtedly tribal land and, since 1988, Native American Tribes have the right to operate gambling venues on sovereign land.

Online Gambling Options in Alaska

There are almost no legal venues in this state that offer gambling options. Fortunately, a huge number of great online casinos in AK are currently available. The vast majority of these sites are safe and offer more gambling options than the top land-based casinos in Las Vegas.

One of the best today is Bovada Casino. This site has grown extremely popular throughout the US in recent years. Thousands of different wagering options are available every day through this casino website.

Alaska has no laws that specifically ban online casino gambling. Many individuals are realizing how fun and easy online gambling really is. Feel free to check out some of the sites available here for yourself!

The proposed casino in Eklutna will hopefully be approved in the next few months. Unfortunately, it will only be eligible to offer Class II games. Perhaps in time, Alaska will adopt more modern gambling laws and lawmakers will choose to legalize full-scale casino gambling and sports betting.
