South Point Hotel, Casino & Spa Review

South Point Hotel, Casino, and Spa is a large casino resort located in Enterprise, Nevada, a suburb of Las Vegas south of the airport and the strip. Enterprise has a population of about 100,000, and the South Point is only one of two casinos that serve the area, with the other being the smaller, rustic Silverton casino.

South Point is located right on Las Vegas Boulevard, the same thoroughfare that hosts many of Las Vegas’ biggest casino resorts on the strip, in Paradise, Nevada, and you just have to drive a little further south to get to Enterprise and South Point.

Completed in 2005, at an initial cost of $600 million, South Point was the first mega resort south of McCarran International Airport, starting with a 662 room hotel that later became expanded.

It was built by Coast Casinos, and originally called South Coast. The next year, in 2006, Coast founder Michael Gaughan sold the company to Boyd Gaming, for $1.3 billion, then bought the South Coast from them for $576 million. Gaughan then changed the name to South Point, after the South Point racing team which competed in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck series.

Gaughan sold South Point Racing a couple years later, but still owns South Point Hotel, Casino, and Spa, although his son Brendan still drives, as a full time competitor in the Xfinity Series as well as having made a number of starts over his career in the Sprint Cup series.

Michael Gaughan also owns Michael Gaughan Airport Slots, the exclusive provider of slots at McCarran International. He has been around the casino industry for many years, building his first casino back in 1979, and is a member of the Gaming Hall of Fame.

South Point became expanded in 2008, bringing it up to 2,163 hotel rooms, making it the largest casino hotel in the Las Vegas area not on the strip. It also has an 80,000 square foot casino, 160,000 square feet of meeting and banquet space, a 4,400 seat equestrian arena, a 400 seat showroom, a 300 seat race and sports book, a 64 lane bowling alley, a 16 screen movie theater complex, a poker room,  a bingo parlor, an arcade, a pool, a spa and salon, a gym, and 10 full service restaurants.
