Caesars Las Vegas Hotel & Casino Review

Caesar’s Palace has been an icon on the Las Vegas strip since the 1960’s, and since then a lot of very impressive hotels and casinos have been built, but this property still stands as among the city’s very best.

It’s not that the hotel is so big, it is the 11th biggest hotel in the world by room count, but there are several hotels in Las Vegas that are bigger. It’s not that their casino is so big, there are several this big or bigger in the city, and several that take in more money as well, although Caesar’s Palace is among the leaders in both categories.

Everything here is on a grand scale though, a project that started out impressive and still continues to grow. The company that owned this resort casino, Caesar’s Entertainment, was bought by Harrah’s Entertainment a few years ago, but the company changed the name back to Caesar’s shortly afterward, in large part because this hotel casino is the centerpiece of all their holdings.

Caesar’s Palace was the vision of hotel builder Jay Sarno, who was told that it was a crazy idea to build a European style hotel and casino in Las Vegas. Sarno had started out pretty modestly, but he had some powerful connections. Former Teamsters boss Jimmy Hoffa arranged for his start in the business by setting him up with his first motel, but the union had an appetite for something much bigger, and in 1966, Caesar’s Palace was born.

Caesar’s Palace has had a very colorful history, starting with the million dollars Sarno spent on the opening day party. In 1967, Evel Knievel attempted a jump here, unsuccessfully, and barely survived. There were rumors of mob connections, which proved to be true, and Sarno ended up selling the place in 1969, as well as his other casino, Circus Circus.

Caesar’s attracted the biggest names in the business, including Frank Sinatra who came over from the Sands in 1967. He performed there until 1970, until Sinatra got into an argument with the staff at the casino over their not wanting to raise the maximum stakes, and a casino executive pulled a gun on him.

While Sinatra refused to make a statement to the police, he was plenty upset and walked out on his contract, only to return 4 years later. This was just a start of a long list of events that went on here, right on up to their being charged with money laundering in 2015.

Caesar’s Palace is designed after Ancient Rome, and the goal has been to make their guests feel like Caesar. In some ways they may have exceeded anything they had back then though. It has been called a Greco Roman Fantasyland, and not without good cause. The marble and the statues and the fountains here are very impressive indeed.

The Facilities at Caesar’s Palace

There are 6 different towers here, the original Julius tower completed in 1966, the Nobu Tower, formerly the Centurian tower, opened in 1970, the Forum tower, built in 1979, the Palace Tower, opened in 1998, the Laurel Collection Tower, formerly the Augustus Tower, built in 2003, and the Octavius Tower, completed in 2012. There are a total of 3,960 rooms and suites on hand here.

They just completed even more renovations on the property in 2016, so everything here is up to date. Guests can select from rooms in any of the towers, and all are very nice. The room rates start at $99 a night, right on up to $35,000 a night for their villas, which they have no problem renting.

Caesar’s Palace has always catered particularly to high rollers, and while most of their guests don’t play with that kind of money, there is a wide variety of different selections as far as rooms and suites go, and whatever you want, they have it.

There are four different pools here, all modeled after the Ancient Roman baths. There is also a total of 18 fountains on the property. The Forum Shops is the biggest grossing shopping mall in the United States and is the most valuable property in Las Vegas.

Caesar’s also has 300,000 square feet of convention space spread over 20 meeting halls. The Colosseum has seating for 4,296 and has showcased the biggest acts in show business. They are still in a class by themselves in this regard. There are 5 other entertainment venues here as well, including a 75,000 square foot nightclub, just completed in 2015 and like no other. There is also 8 bars on hand.

Caesar’s is also famous for its sports, particularly boxing, and they even hosted an NHL pre season hockey game in the parking lot one year, as well as a Grand Prix race on the property in the early 1980’s.

The list of restaurants here is very impressive. There’s the Bacchanal Buffet, Nobu Restaurant, Old Homestead Steakhouse, Gordon Ramsay’s Bar and Grill, Rau’s, Mr. Chow, Mesa Grill, Searsucker, Beijing Noodle No 9, Serendipidy 3, Payard Patisserie and Bistro, Restaurant Guy Savoy, Brioche by Guy Savoy, Forum Food Court, Café Americano, Starbucks, and in room dining. This might be the best restaurant collection in one place anywhere.

There’s also a high quality spa here and a separate salon which will well take care of all your needs.
