Atlantis Casino Resort Review
The Atlantis Casino Resort in Reno, Nevada, is a luxury casino hotel that clearly rates among the best in the city. There’s a lot of competition in Reno among the casinos here, and with less tourists to go around, the top casino resorts here constantly battle one another, looking to stand out enough to keep their place full and busy.
The Atlantis targets the luxury market more, and is considered among the two finest hotels in the city, with a 4 diamond rating from AAA, an award held by only one other casino hotel in Reno, the Peppermill, their main competition here. They are also the only concierge hotel in the city, where the staff here is on hand to attend to their guests’ every need.
There are three hotel towers here, including their concierge tower, with a total of 824 rooms. While the casino here is of a pretty modest size, with only about 65,000 square feet of gaming space, it is one of the city’s most popular and most profitable casinos, partly due to their attracting more affluent clientele.
The Atlantis started out as the Golden Road Motor Inn in 1972, a 142 room motel. The name of the motel changed several times over the years, to Travelodge, Quality Inn, and the Clarion Reno, all under the ownership of the Fahari family, who still own the property today through their company Monarch Casino and Resort Inc.
In 1991 it saw its first expansion, and the owners claimed that it would be the first of many, and they were true to their word. In total, $150 million have been spent on upgrades, bringing it from a motel to a world class luxury casino resort.
There are further plans to expand it even more in the coming years, as they want to keep growing and keep making the Atlantis bigger and better as time goes on.
The Features of the Atlantis Casino Resort
There are three different types of standard rooms to choose from here, although none of them can be considered standard. Floor to ceiling windows grace every room here, which are definitely in the luxury class. Rates here are higher than in most other Reno resorts, but depending on the day you can get one in the Atlantis Tower for as low as $90. A room in the Luxury Tower starts at around $114 a night, and you can book a room in the Concierge Tower for as little as $154.
There are four choices of suites here, all featuring the same high class quality as the luxury rooms, only larger. They all come with a very impressive list of amenities, including a refrigerator, a mini bar, digital safe, guest robes, and much more. Concierge Tower rooms come with additional features, including butler service upon request.
11 restaurants await you here, and the food at the Atlantis is certainly one of their stronger points, although just about everything at this place is a strong point.
The Atlantis Steakhouse is the headliner of them, serving the finest cuts of meat and cocktails in an intimate atmosphere. Bistro Napa features California cuisine and fine wine. The Manhattan Deli brings a full service New York style deli to the area.
The Café Alfresco serves up wood fired pizza, fresh pasta dishes, and great sandwiches. Toucan Charlie’s has been voted Reno’s best buffet restaurant, with dishes from around the world.
There are 2 restaurants on the Sky Terrace, the Sushi Bar and the Oyster bar, so you can take your pick between these two delicacies. The Purple Parrot serves American food 24 hours a day and is a favorite among the locals.
For even more casual dining, guests can visit the Chicago Dogs! Eatery, with Chicago style hot dogs, pizza, and sandwiches. In addition, there are two coffee shops on hand, Gourmet Grind and Java etc.
The spa here is also a big attraction, with 30,000 square feet of space, and boasting the only Forbes Travel Guide Four Star award. This is a world class spa that is also one of the most beautiful in the world and features every type of spa treatment imaginable. There’s also a salon and a fitness center on location.
Atlantis also really stands out as far as entertainment goes and they feature an ongoing assortment of concerts and other special events, as well as several bars including the Sky Terrace Bar featuring spectacular views of the city and the mountains. They can also plan your meeting or wedding reception and put the same effort into it as they do everything here.
The Casino at the Atlantis Casino Resort
The casino here might not be the biggest, but it’s of a high quality, and well loved by the regulars in Reno as well as tourists.
All casinos have player’s clubs, but the one here, Club Paradise, is felt by many to be the best in Reno.
Casinos all start with their slots and the slots here have been named the best video slots in Reno by Casino Player Magazine, as well as being voted the loosest slots in town by readers of the Reno Gazette-Journal. They have also been deemed by the Nevada Gaming Control Board as being 20% looser than average, and looser means a higher payout to players, which is exactly what we want.
There are 1,450 different slot and video gaming machines on hand here, with more than 700 penny machines alone. This might be a luxury hotel casino but they still ensure that the smallest players are well taken care of as well, and that’s the case here.
There are many progressive slot machines as well, including some state wide progressives such as Megabucks.
The table games here are also considered to be among the best in the city, if not the very best, and their friendly staff will ensure that even the newest table game players will be able to enjoy themselves fully.
Your first table game bet with them is free, and they also have daily lessons covering the major casino table games.
While some casinos boast that they have $5 Blackjack, Atlantis ups the ante and offers $3 Blackjack, once again ensuring that smaller bankrolled players get a lot of bang for their buck. There’s no need to stick to slots here if you don’t have that much money to gamble with.
There’s a good range of different table games as well, including Blackjack, Baccarat, Craps, Ultimate Texas Holdem, Roulette, Crazy 4 Poker, Pai Gow Poker, and more. Their dealers have been voted the friendliest in Reno, and playing table games is all about enjoying yourself, and having a friendly dealer just adds to this.
Those who prefer playing poker against other players instead of the house will find a very nice poker room here, with some of the most comfortable seats you’ll ever find at a poker table. They feature daily tournaments in addition to their cash games, special room rates for poker players, and are also the only non smoking poker room in Reno.
Atlantis also has the city’s only non smoking race and sports book, featuring great lines on all major sporting events. There’s also plenty of Keno on hand, featuring an exclusive progressive jackpot which is almost up to a million dollars at the time of this writing.
The Atlantis Casino Resort is simply a great all around place to stay and to gamble. There really isn’t anything they don’t do well here, and if you’re planning on being in the Reno area, well people pretty much only go to Reno to gamble, and the Atlantis is an excellent choice for sure.
