Wynn Resorts has enlisted one of sports’ biggest stars ( literally) to help promote and grow its sports betting brand WynnBET.
According to an announcement by the company, four-time NBA champion, Hall of Famer, and Inside the NBA host Shaquille O’Neal will join the WynnBET family as one of its brand ambassadors.
Said Wynn Interactive CEO Craig Billings:
“Shaquille O’Neal has been a great friend of Wynn Las Vegas for many years, and we are thrilled to expand our relationship with him through a partnership with WynnBET. A successful businessman, NBA legend, and one of the most well-known personalities in sports media, we believe our players will enjoy interacting with him through the WynnBET app and are excited to feature Shaq in our advertising campaign set to debut later this summer.”
WynnBET Brand Ambassador
As Brand Ambassador O’Neal will feature prominently on all of WynnBET’s advertising platforms and attend fan-facing events. Shaq will also create original content and appear as a guest on broadcast shows produced by WynnBET media partners Blue Wire Podcasts, Cumulus Media, and Minute Media.
O’Neal will also serve as strategic consultant to the betting company. As part of the deal, WynnBET will also launch “ShaqPot”, a free-to-play game found at the WynnBET App.
In order to comply with NBA regulations regarding involvement with gambling companies, O’Neal will be selling his minority ownership stake in the Sacramento Kings. It can be recalled that when Kings current owner Vivek Randive took over in 2013, O’Neal was one of the celebrities who purchased a 2-4% minority stake in the Kings.
Sports Betting Deals With Celebrities
Since the U.S. Supreme Court took down the PASPA in 2018, sports betting has boomed in the United States. With a crowded marketplace, online sports betting operators have tapped celebrities to help sell their brand and give them the edge over their competitors.
BetMGM hired hockey great Wayne Gretzky last June while Tom Brady’s super model wife Gisele Bundchen serves as special adviser to the DraftKings board on environmental matters. Meanwhile, former NFL star Jerome Bettis is promoting BetRivers and former golfer Paige Spiranac promotes PointsBet.
Last month, WynnBET also announced that former NFL starts Chad “Ochocingco” Johnson and Mangold would become their brand ambassadors.
