Missouri is currently home to more than 10 popular casino-resorts. Not long ago, the Osage Nation revealed plans to open a casino at the Ozarks. Many believe this could grow to become one of the most popular gambling venues in the region.
The Osage Nation seems prepared to invest an incredible amount of money into this property. The tribe will need to gain permission from various groups to begin construction on this casino, though.
Here’s what you need to know about these casino plans!
Osage Nation Reveals Plans to Open a Casino at the Ozarks
The Midwest has never been considered much of a US casino hub. States like Illinois and Missouri are home to popular casinos. When compared to states like New Jersey and Nevada, however, these gambling markets look minuscule.
That does not mean these gaming markets cannot expand. In fact, the Osage Nation in Missouri seems particularly interested in expanding the state’s gambling industry. Over the weekend, officials within the tribe revealed plans to open a casino at the Ozarks.
Many have been surprised to see what this tribe has planned. The Osage Nation is willing to invest $60 million into this casino-resort. This represents one of the largest economic development plans for the Ozarks in recent memory. Lake of the Ozarks Convention and Visitors Bureau Executive Director Heather Brown spoke about these plans to the media shortly after the plans were revealed to the public.
“We are excited to welcome any new development to Lake of the Ozarks that can help grow our tourism community,” Brown said. “We are looking forward to developing a partnership with the Osage Nation’s new entertainment district at the Lake of the Ozarks. As a CVB, we have been supporting and advocating for economic development and tourism in the tri-county region since 1932.”
Various state government bodies will need to give approval for construction to begin on this property. Local residents will likely need to vote for this venue to be allowed, too. We’ll be sure to offer more updates on this situation over the next few months!
More Teams Push to Allow Sports Betting in Missouri
2021 has been a hugely successful year for the US sports betting industry. Many states formally launched their very first regulated sportsbooks this year. That includes Louisiana, which saw its first sportsbooks go live in four casinos over the weekend.
Lawmakers in Missouri have not yet approved any legislation to allow sports betting. This has been frustrating for the millions of individuals here looking for legal options to bet on their favorite teams and players. This week, several professional teams made a public push to finally allow sports betting in Missouri.
The St. Louis Cardinals, St. Louis Blues, and Kansas City Royals all submitted proposals to legalize sports betting in 2022. These teams argue that sports betting will help to bring the state a huge amount of tax revenue each year. They also point to the large amount of unregulated sports betting that already takes place in the state.
It seems likely that 2022 will be the year that sports betting legislation is approved in Missouri. This state is already home to a large, successful casino industry. Allowing sports betting would help the state to better compete with the gaming industries in nearby states.
Illinois is quickly developing one of the most successful gambling industries in the country. Here’s a quick look at how this state’s gaming industry could expand in the coming months.
The Chicago Casino Plans Continue to Move Forward
Illinois has been the largest casino hub in the Midwest for decades. Back in 2019, lawmakers here approved a Capital Plan that allows for many new casinos to open around the state. Many were surprised to see this plan allows for a casino in Chicago.
Unfortunately, the plans to open a casino in the Windy City have faced many delays. The Covid-19 pandemic obviously led to many of these delays. Officials in the city have also found it very difficult to narrow down a location for this gaming property.
Not long ago, Mayor Lori Lightfoot began asking for companies to submit proposals to open this Chicago casino. Five proposals have since come in. It’s clear that despite the high tax rate and location issues, several companies remain interested in opening a casino-resort in this city.
Hope is that construction on this venue begins in 2022. An opening date could possibly take place in 2023. It would not be a major shock to see more delays in opening this venue as the months go on, though. Stay tuned for updates.
