The Push to Change Georgia’s Gambling Laws Continues

Georgia State Seal With Gambling Background

Georgia is well-known for having some of the strictest gambling regulations in the country. If some lawmakers get their way, that will soon change. New reports indicate there is once again a real push to change Georgia’s gambling laws in the near future.

Many residents here support this move. Others feel it’s unnecessary. Now is a great time to talk about how and when things could begin to shift for Georgia’s gambling industry.

Let’s get into it!

More Bills to Change Georgia’s Gambling Laws are Set to be Presented

The state of Georgia has been against the gambling industry for many years. Historically speaking, the state’s leaders have pushed against allowing any new gambling options to become available. In recent years, gaming advocates have pushed for a change, arguing that more regulated gambling options will help to bring the state valuable revenue.

At least one gambling bill has been presented in Georgia every year over the past decade. All of these bills have been shut down. Some feel that 2022 could be different. A growing number of powerful individuals now support the move to change Georgia’s gambling laws.

The General Assembly in Georgia has begun to prepare for its legislative session to begin in January. Gambling advocates are expected to present four different bills here in 2022. Most of these focus on finally allowing regulated land-based casinos to operate in the state.

Many lawmakers point to the money being lost to other states with gambling industries set in place. North Carolina, for example, seems to be attracting many gambling fans to several of its properties. That includes Harrah’s Cherokee Casino-Resort.

32 different lobbyists in Georgia seem determined to make some major changes here. If these individuals get their way, Georgie may welcome several casinos within the next couple of years.

Will Georgia Soon Legalize Sports Betting?

More than half the United States now has a legal sports betting industry set in place. This is all thanks to the US Supreme Court’s removal of PASPA back in May of 2018. This decision immediately allowed every state in the country to legalize and regulate its own sports betting industry.

Georgia is one of the states yet to formally approve any sports betting bills. That isn’t a surprise when considering how anti-gambling most of the lawmakers here are. Georgia is home to a massive sporting fan base, however, and most analysts feel that having legal sports betting options available would help to bring the state a huge amount of tax revenue.

Senate Resolution 135, a recently presented bill that would expand Georgia’s gambling laws, made considerable progress in 2021. Many take this as a sign that things will change in 2022. Sports betting has become widely accepted around the US and it would not be a surprise to see a specific sports gambling bill gain the Governor’s approval next year.

Many sports betting supports want to see online sportsbooks become available in Georiga. Interestingly, many of these officials are not in support of seeing any retail sportsbooks launch in this state. This would be a similar situation to the one Tennessee finds itself in.

2022 is shaping up to be a massive year for the entire US gambling industry. It seems that both casinos and sports betting could become legal in Georgia sometime in the next twelve months. Stay tuned for updates!

More States Prepare to Launch Their First Sportsbooks

Georgia is far from the only state to recently update its gambling regulations. Throughout 2021, a huge number of states have been working hard to launch their first sportsbooks. Over the next couple of months, several states will succeed in doing so.

Connecticut announced today that a soft launch of its first sportsbooks will take place tomorrow, October 12. This state legalized sports betting back in May of 2021 and has been preparing to launch its first sports betting platforms on October 7. Officials here have been working hard to agree on specific regulations for this industry ever since.

A seven-day soft launch from the Connecticut Lottery Corporation, Mohegan Tribe, and Mashantucket Pequot Tribe will begin tomorrow. Assuming everything goes well, statewide online sports betting will become available. Several major sports betting operators are eagerly waiting for their first sportsbooks to launch here.

Florida is another state working to get its sports betting industry off the ground. Legal disputes between various pari-mutuel companies and the Seminole Tribe have led to delays doing so. Hope is that Florida’s first sportsbooks launch before the end of October.

Several Companies are Pushing to Legalize Casinos in Georgia!

Casino Slot Machines

Georgia is well-known for having some of the strictest gambling laws in the country. Over the years, many have been pushing for lawmakers here to make changes to these laws. One prominent group of gambling companies are now pushing to legalize casinos in Georgia!

A growing number of residents support this move. It would likely help to bring Georgia a huge amount of tax revenue every single month. Today, we will talk about what needs to happen for casinos to become legal here.

Let’s get into it!

US Casino Revenue Jumped Considerably in June

It’s been more than a year since most casinos around the US reopened to the public. Since that time, the US land-based casino industry has been slowly recovering. Tourism to major gambling hubs has been increasing and revenue has been steadily rising.

Many states recently released their casino revenue reports for the month of June. The majority of these states saw a major jump in their revenue figures. It’s great news for the various casino companies across the country.

New Jersey set a new monthly gambling revenue record this June. Combined GGR came out to $392.8 million last month. The land-based casinos in this state managed to bring in $214.5 million. $154.1 million was earned from slots and $60.4 came from table games.

Mississippi is known for having one of the largest casino industries in the Southern US. In June, the casinos here managed to bring in $147 million in total gross gaming revenue. That is a new monthly revenue record for the state.

Not every state’s casino industry saw such a large increase in gambling revenue. Massachusetts and Louisiana both ended up seeing revenue drops last month. Most analysts expect things to turn around in these states in July, though.

Georgia is one of the few states without any legal casinos. It now appears that there is another major push to finally allow Class III gambling venues in this state. Here’s what we know about this situation.

More Gaming Companies Push to Legalize Casinos in Georgia

Gambling regulations vary widely across the country. Places like Nevada and New Jersey are known for their liberal take towards the gaming industry. Others states such as Georgia are known for their intense, restrictive laws towards all forms of gambling.

Casinos have been prohibited in Georgia for decades. Many residents and lawmakers here have complained about this fact. Allowing casino gambling, they argue, would help to bring the state an incredible amount of revenue every single month.

Reports surfaced this week claiming that a group of several companies is now pushing to legalize casinos in Georgia. Major gaming companies including Caesars Entertainment, Bally’s Corporation, Hard Rock International, and Wynn Resorts are all pushing for this change. These companies (and others) have formed their own lobbying group in an attempt to change the state’s gambling laws in 2022.

This is likely the most intense effort to allow casinos in Georgia to date. The group claims that revenue from legal casinos would help to revive the HOPE Scholarship Program in the state, as well as bring money to various other education projects. Atlanta commercial real estate executive Rick Lackey spoke about a possible vote on this issue to the media this week.

“It would be a vote against $5 billion in brick-and-mortar construction and 50,000 new jobs in Georgia,” Lackey said.

Gambling fans in Georgia are likely happy to hear about this new effort to allow casinos. There will be major pushback, though. Georgia is home to a huge number of anti-gambling groups that are expected form their own counter-lobbying effort.

There is a chance that gambling laws in Georgia will change in the future. Could sports betting become legal in Georgia at some point soon, too?

When Will Georgia Legalize Sports Gambling?

The US sports gambling industry has been expanding rapidly over the past few years. More than half the states across the country have a legal sports betting industry up and running. Most of these states are earning a huge amount of revenue, as a result.

Most of the lawmakers in Georgia have shown little interest in getting sports gambling up and running. It’s a shame when considering how many sports fans are living here. Most analysts believe Georgia could develop one of the most profitable sports gambling industries in the country.

The same group pushing to legalize casinos in Georgia is also working hard to allow sports betting in this state. Several of the major sports franchises in Atlanta may show support for this move. These franchises likely recognize their own potential for revenue earnings with legal sports betting available.

One mobile sports betting bill made it all the way through the Senate in Georgia this year. Unfortunately, it failed to progress any further. Some believe that 2022 is the year this form of gambling finally becomes available in Georgia.

It seems there could be some major changes taking place here. Several powerful companies are working hard to allow gambling in the state. We’ll be sure to offer updates on this situation over the next few months!

This is now looking more likely. Some state officials here believe that this new casino would help boost tourism and revenue in the state. Today, we’re going to give an update on this exciting new casino plan.

Let’s get into it!

There’s Only One Month Left of the 2020 NASCAR Cup Series

NASCAR remains one of the most popular sports around the US. Back in March, news broke that this stock car racing league was officially shutting down. It was disappointing news, as the 2020 NASCAR Cup Series was already well underway.

Finally, in May, NASCAR resumed its operations. It was exciting news for the millions of fans around the world. There are some major changes set in place during this season, yet it’s managed to go on without any major issues.

There’s now only one month left in the Cup Series. We’re currently in round 12 of the Cup Championship. Things are extremely competitive right now heading into the Bank of America Roval 400. Many are now flocking to different betting sites to place their bets on the season’s winner.

Bovada, one of the best online sportsbooks in the US, is offering odds on which driver manages to win the 2020 Drivers Championship. At the moment, Kevin Harvick is listed as the betting favorite to win at +175. Denny Hamlin is listed next at +225. Want to go with an underdog? Consider a bet on Joey Logano with odds of +1200.

It’s been a fascinating Cup Series this year. The final race of the season is set to take place on November 8th. Now, many are interested in whether or not the Atlanta Motor Speedway will receive a major upgrade next year.

Here’s what we know about this situation.

More Details On the Casino at Atlanta Motor Speedway Are Coming Out

Prior to 2020, the US casino industry was thriving. Gambling destinations around the country saw massive revenue earnings and new casinos were quickly being constructed. This year, however, the casino industry has taken a massive hit.

At the start of 2020, plans were unveiled to open a new casino at Atlanta Motor Speedway. It was a major surprise for many to hear. Georgia is known for having extremely harsh laws towards the gambling industry and lawmakers have pushed against opening a real casino.

Many now feel this casino would help to benefit the state. The current plan is to construct it directly next to the race track. Speedway Motorsports president and CEO Marcus Smith claims he’s working to obtain a license for this new gambling venue.

“That is a big hope for us,” Smith said. “We’re working in the state of Georgia on the gaming license opportunity, and it’s of course taking longer than we would like and a lot of other people that have been working on it, but we’re hopeful for that. We also think that Atlanta Motor Speedway is a fantastic racetrack, and the drivers and fans have always given it high reviews. So we are optimistic about NASCAR at Atlanta and the Atlanta market.”

This is far from a done deal, though. This casino will need to be approved from the various state government bodies. This will be much easier said than done, yet it seems that many state leaders are getting on-board with the idea.

Will Georgia ever legalize sports betting?

Georgia’s Sports Betting Plans, Explained

Back in May of 2018, the Supreme Court decided to strike down PASPA. It was a monumental decision for the country’s gambling industry. With this law gone, each state could set its own regulations towards sports gambling.

Today, 24 states have officially legalized sports gambling. Most of these states are earning a huge amount of revenue from this industry. Over in Georgia, gambling proponents have been working hard to finally get the state’s sports betting industry up and running.

There have been a few sports betting bills presented here over the past few years. This past September, the Senate Special Judiciary Committee voted to push the state’s new sports gambling bill to the State Senate. It’s exciting news for sports fans.

It’s unclear whether or not this will make its way through the legislative process, though. Georgia’s House and Senate will need to approve the bill. Then, it will need to gain approval from Governor Kemp.

There’s a lot going on here. Soon, we could see a new casino at Atlanta Motor Speedway. There’s also a chance that legal, regulated sports betting could come to Georgia sometime soon. We’ll continue offering updates on this situation over the next few weeks.

Lawmakers Discuss Gambling Regulations in Georgia

To say that Georgia is not a gambling-friendly state is an understatement. It has some of the strictest laws towards the gambling laws of almost any other state in the country. Surprisingly, lawmakers are discussing whether or not to change the current set of gambling regulations in Georgia.

Georgia State Flag

It’s extremely exciting news for gambling fans here. Now is the perfect time to look at the current laws here, and discuss how they could change in the future. Let’s get into it!

Gambling Laws in Georgia, Explained

As we’ve already mentioned, Georgia has some of the most restrictive laws in the country when it comes to gambling. The first real set of regulations here came in 1878. That year, lawmakers in the country decided to ban the sale of lottery tickets.

Things haven’t improved much since then. For a brief time, gambling fans found a legal loophole that allowed making wagers through online poker machines. State officials quickly created legislation that made this form of gambling illegal.

In 1993, the state finally decided to create an official lottery. It’s tightly regulated, though.

A bill to legalize casinos was nearly passed here in 2012. Unfortunately, lawmakers eventually decided to shut it down. Today, traditional casino gambling remains illegal. Only cruise ships that take gamblers into international waters are available here. Amazingly, a committee was formed here to begin studying the gambling industry in April of this year.

In May of 2018, the US Supreme Court struck down PASPA, giving every state the option to legalize sports gambling. For many months, officials in Georgia seemed uninterested in making this form of gambling legal. This now appears to be changing.

Lawmakers are now meeting to talk about the current set of gambling regulations in Georgia.

Officials May Soon Change Gambling Regulations in Georgia

Earlier this month, several of Georgia’s biggest sports teams officially voiced their support for the legalization of sports gambling. The Presidents of the Atlanta Braves, Atlanta Falcons, and Atlanta Hawks all officially support these plans.

Interestingly, lawmakers are beginning to warm up to the idea of expanding gambling regulations in Georgia. These officials are now taking their show to the road. A house committee officially held a meeting in Valdosta, talking about tax revenue.

The goal is to educate residents here on the ways that expanded gambling operations could benefit the state. Many of these lawmakers believe that opening the state’s casino, sports betting, and horse racing market could help bring money to the state’s HOPE scholarship program. Today was the first meeting of the entire tour.

State Representative Brett Harrell commented on the discussion on gambling regulations in Georgia to the media today.

“Our intent is to ask the citizens, ‘Do you support inviting this industry to Georgia?’” he said. “If the answer is yes, how do you want us to enable this industry to come to Georgia so you all get your piece of the pie?”

As of now, it’s unlikely that any small cities such as Valdosta will receive a casino. Larger cities may have the ability to open one if the state changes its laws. We’ll need to wait and see how lawmakers feel about the possible changes.

More States Continue to Legalize Sports Betting

Georgia may not be completely on-board with legalizing sports betting yet. Many other states, however, are currently working to legalize this form of gambling. Several states have recently passed bills to legalize this industry and will soon begin offering odds on sporting events taking place around the world.

On November 5th, Colorado officially approved a sports betting bill. It allows for both in-person and online betting. The first bets will become available here sometime in 2020.

Many believe that in time, every state in the country will choose to legalize this industry. California seems likely to do so over the next year or two. This state is the most populous in the country. The state government would likely earn millions of dollars every single month with sports betting legalization.

Many lawmakers are beginning to realize how much money can be earned from this industry. It’s a great time to be a sports fan in this country.

Gambling regulations in Georgia could soon change. Hopefully, both casino gambling and sports betting will become available here.

Stay tuned for more updates over the next few months!
