The state of Pennsylvania is now offering online lottery gaming after a quiet soft launch a few days ago.
Pennsylvania has started 2018 off with a bang, as the state prepares for several new additions to their gambling landscape. In late 2017, a gaming package was approved that would see many changes in the state, including the addition of online casino and poker gaming, iLottery, satellite casinos and more. While the spotlight has been on online gaming, with all eyes on operators and who will be offering casino and/or poker games, the state quietly launched their online lottery just a few days ago. The soft launch took place last week and players now have the opportunity to log online to play games when in the state.
Online Lottery Launch
The Pennsylvania online lottery launched with no fanfare and if you didn’t visit the lottery site, then you probably had no idea that the games were available. The online lottery site is only in the soft launch phase, so it is not surprising that state gaming officials kept the release hush-hush. It is expected that after a short time, the site will be fully operational, offering a host of lottery gaming options online.
For now, SG Digital is offering 11 instant win games via the lottery site. Three games are considered featured options: Big Money Slingo, Foxin’ Wins and Super Ca$h Buster. Additional games on offer include: Big Foot, Ca$h Buster Towers, Big Foot, Monster Wins, Crossword Cash, Volcano Eruption, Cash in the Lamp, Robin Hood Prince of Tweets and Super Gems.
Once the lottery is live and in full operational mode, players will be able to purchase draw tickets online as well as play more instant win games. It is possible that the lottery will be adding more online gaming options including keno and virtual sports in the future.
With the launch, Pennsylvania is now one of 11 states that offers online lottery gaming. Other states in the mix are Michigan, Illinois, Georgia, Kentucky, New Hampshire, New York, North Dakota, Maine, Virginia and North Carolina.
For players who want to take part in trying out the lottery games online in Pennsylvania, there are a few rules to follow. Players must be physically located in the state and be at least 18 years old to participate. Players who meet this criterion can log online and create an online lottery account to access the draw games. Registration requires players to provide their name, address, date of birth, valid email and the last four numbers of their social security number.
The information provided will then be used to verify the age and identity of the player. Geolocation technology is also used to confirm the location of every registering player. VIP members of the state lottery can use their current login information to sign in online. However, there may be a need for additional information to be provided.
The state has also made it relatively easy to fund an online gaming account. An ACH e-Check as well as PayNearMe, Visa or MasterCard can be used for depositing funds into an online lottery account. Once funds have been applied, the player is free to enjoy the instant draw games that are already available, and any new games added in the future.
It will be interesting to see how well the online lottery fares in Pennsylvania and how much it adds to the overall gambling earnings for the state. Progress still continues in other areas of expansion but there is more to be completed before such additions as online casino and poker gaming or satellite casinos are operational.
