More Companies Bid to Operate Chicago’s Proposed Casino

Welcome To Fabulous Chicago City Background

The push to open a major casino in Chicago has been taking place for years. It seems that officials are closer than ever to getting construction on this property started. This week, three more companies officially bid to operate Chicago’s proposed casino.

This could grow to become one of the most successful casinos in the midwest. Several steps still need to be taken for this property to open its doors, though.

Here’s what you need to know!

Three Companies Place Bids to Operate Chicago’s Proposed Casino

Illinois has been a hot casino market for years. A variety of commercial and tribal gambling venues are spread throughout the state. In 2019, lawmakers and Governor Pritzker approved a new capital allowing for many more casinos to open in Illinois, including one in Chicago.

It’s been a couple of years since then and the process to open a casino in Chicago is ongoing. Right now, officials in the city are trying to find the most suitable company to run this property. With the tax rate set on this property lowered, it seems that more companies are growing interested in running it.

Three more companies have just submitted bids to operate Chicago’s proposed casino. Bally’s Hard Rock, and Rivers Chicago each sent new proposals forward. Each operator is willing to spend more than $1 billion constructing a state-of-the-art casino in the city. Mayor Lightfoot spoke to the media about the selection process this week.

“The devil’s in the details, and my team is going to do a deep scrub with them to make sure we understand – are these projects really viable?” Lightfoot said. “We want partnership, but we don’t want to foot the bill for somebody else’s casino. So, they’ve got to be financially viable.”

Each of the three companies listed above certainly fit the criteria of “financially viable.” We’ll be sure to offer updates as soon as a winning bid is chosen.

Gambling Revenue in Illinois Continues to Surge

There is no doubt that Illinois is now one of the country’s most successful gambling hubs. Both casino gambling and sports betting are now legal and regulated here. Both help to bring the state a huge amount of gambling revenue each year.

Not long ago, reports surfaced claiming that gambling revenue in Illinois has already surpassed $1 billion this year. That figure was hit between January and October. November gambling revenue is surging around the country and Illinois will likely see large amounts of tax revenue flowing in through the next two months.

Interestingly, 2019 remains the most successful year in history for the state’s gambling industry. This was the year that the aforementioned Capital Plan was approved to allow six new casinos in the state. As of today, only one of those six casinos is up and running.

The next few years will likely be hugely successful for Illinois’ gambling industry. Several more casinos are set to become operational. That includes Chicago’s proposed casino, which may begin going under construction in 2022.
