One of Iowa’s most popular casinos is set to undergo a major expansion project. The Grand Falls Casino, located in Larchwood, has confirmed that it’s investing $10 million into hotel-casino expansion. It’s exciting news for gambling fans in the Northwest area of Iowa.
The state of Iowa is working hard to expand its gambling industry. Today, we’re going to look at what we know about the Grand Falls Casino’s expansion plans. We’ll also talk about some of the other new gambling options available in Iowa right now.
Grand Falls Casino is Set to Expand Significantly
Three months ago, officials at the Grand Falls Casino announced they were looking to expand the property. Gambling revenue has been increasing here and many believed it was time to make things bigger and better for guests. This week, these officials announced that the expansion plans have been finalized.
$10 million is being invested into the hotel-casino. $8.5 million will be spent on building an additional hotel. This new hotel will be four stories tall and will include 66 new rooms for guests. It will be constructed on a hillside directly next to the casino floor.
The other $1.5 million is going towards the construction of a new sportsbook. This casino has discussed building a land-based sportsbook ever since Iowa legalized sports gambling back in August.
Dan Kehl, CEO of the Grand Falls Casino, commented on the major expansion plans to the media this week.
“Today’s a big day for us as we embark on the beginning of a $10 million investment into the property,” he said. “I think it’s going to add a lot more excitement to the gaming floor. It’ll raise the energy level when you have that many more guests here at the resort.”
The casino plans to begin construction within the next couple of weeks. Hope is that everything is completed by Memorial Day of 2020.
Sports Betting is Now Legal in Iowa
Back in May of 2018, the US Supreme Court struck down PASPA. Now, every state in the country can set its own laws on sports gambling. Lawmakers in Iowa began looking into sports betting legalization and August 15th, the state’s first regulated sportsbooks began operating.
Sports betting is proving to be an extremely lucrative industry for many states. Fortunately for the state of Iowa, legal sports betting options are already bringing in some impressive revenue figures.
According to the state’s first sports betting revenue report, Iowa casinos generated millions from their sports gambling operations. More than $8.5 million in total was spent on sports wagers in this state last month. The casinos earned $2.2 million and the state received $145,914.
It’s likely that the state has already generated millions more during the month of September. Just about every casino in Iowa now operates a sportsbook. Soon, the Grand Falls Casino in Larchwood will begin construction on its new sports betting area.
Many other states will soon be rolling out their sports gambling operations, as well.
More States Gear Up to Launch Their Sports Betting Options
There’s never been a better time for sports betting fans in the US. Today, nearly 20 states have chosen to legalize and regulate their sports gambling markets. Several of these states are currently preparing to officially launch their first sportsbooks.
New Hampshire officially legalized sports betting on July 12th. Under the state’s set of gambling laws, both land-based and online sports betting will be available. It’s unclear exactly when the first sportsbooks will launch, yet most feel it will be before the end of 2020.
North Carolina once had an extremely strict set of gambling laws that banned most forms of traditional gambling. Interestingly, lawmakers in this state chose to legalize sports gambling this year. Governor Roy Cooper officially signed a sports betting bill into law on July 26th that allows sports betting on tribal lands.
Many other states are currently discussing plans to legalize sports gambling. Recently, several politicians have also begun calling for sports gambling to become federally legal. Many believe it will help to establish a clear set of rules on this industry.
The Grand Falls Casino is set to expand. Make sure to stay tuned for more updates to Iowa’s gambling industry over the next few months!
