Hollywood Casino Morgantown to Open on December 22nd

Hollywood Casino York

Penn National Gaming revealed on Monday that its new Hollywood Casino in Morgantown will open its doors to the public at noon of December 22nd, pending final approval.

Located near the intersections of The Pennsylvania Turnpike, Interstate 176 and Route 10 in the Caernarvon Township, the Hollywood Casino Morgantown is Penn Gaming’s fourth casino in Pennsylvania. However, it is the first in the Wyoming-based company’s ‘backyard’, as it is just right down the road from its corporate headquarters.

In a statement, Hollywood Casino Morgantown vice president and general manager Marc Guastella said:

“The countdown to our grand opening begins today. “We’re very excited to soon welcome patrons to this beautiful new property, where they’ll be able to experience premier gaming, dining and entertainment.”

Casino 4 License

The 80,000 square foot facility cost an estimated $111 million to build, including licensing fees. It is the owner of a ‘Category 4’ casino license and is what is commonly called a ‘mini-casino’ although it will most certainly not have a shortage of gaming options for its patrons.

Hollywood Casino Morgantown will house 750 slot machines and have 30 gaming tables, both of which are the maximum allowed for such offerings for a ‘mini-casino’. The Morgantown casino will use the C3 technology that the other Hollywood casinos have. This technology enables customers to transact using their mobile phones, thus allowing cashless or cardless wagering. According to Schippers, this is especially important in the post-COVID-19 scenario.

It will also have a physical Barstool Sportsbook for sports betting. The sportsbook will also function as a restaurant and entertainment venue. It will have a 150-seat dining area and will be equipped with a ‘Jumbotron’ monitor plus TV sets all over the area so sports bettors can watch all the action. The casino also partnered with Philadelphia’s renowned Tony Luke’s Cheesesteaks and Sandwiches and Red Lotus Asian Kitchen to provide the facility with quality dining options.

Donations to Local Charitable Institutions

To celebrate its launch, Hollywood Casino Morgantown will holding a two-day invitation-only test period where the proceeds will be donated to local charitable institutions.

According to Penn National Gaming SVP of public affairs Eric Schippers, the donations will be made to community partners such as the United Way of Berks County, Honey Brook Food Pantry, and the Jarrett Yoder Foundation, which benefits community heroes and their families, including active military personnel, veterans, firefighters, first responders, and the police.

Penn National Gaming says that the initial donation is just the start of what it hopes will be a long-standing relationship with the community. Schippers says that his company is committed to being actively engaged in the community by partnering with various local groups to assist those in need.
