Summary: As the Golden Nugget seeks approval for online gaming in Pennsylvania, what should we expect from the top-operating brand from New Jersey.
Unless you have been living under a rock or avoiding online gambling news in the United States, then you already know that the most successful operator in the nation regarding online gambling is the Golden Nugget of New Jersey.
The brand continues to surpass their previous month when it comes to player traffic and revenues earned, dominating the New Jersey market as well as topping the charts overall in the US. The brand has now applied for online gaming licensing in Pennsylvania and all eyes are on what they will do once live in the new region.
Applied and Waiting for Approval
When the online gambling licensing stage was opened up by the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board, operators could apply for three licenses, paying $10 million total to offer online slots, table games and poker. Only operators in the state with licensing for land-based services could apply. When little interest was shown and a certain time frame completed, operators could begin applying for individual licensing at $4 million each.
Over time, the state saw applications submitted but licensing still remained. The board then decided to open up the process to qualified gaming entities located outside the state. When this happened, the Golden Nugget jumped at the chance to submit an application.
The brand now awaits a decision by the board. It may be this month’s meeting where we find out if the company is approved to offer their services in Pennsylvania while based in New Jersey.
It would be silly for the board not to approve the company based on their proven success in New Jersey. The Golden Nugget is the only operator to surpass the $9 million mark in monthly revenues from online casino gaming and their closest competitor is the Borgata, a brand that may reach the $5 million mark from time to time.
For now, the Golden Nugget is untouchable in New Jersey and should see the same success in Pennsylvania. If approved, all eyes will be on the brand as they begin to launch services in the region.
What to Expect from the Golden Nugget
The Golden Nugget already has established partnerships thanks to the services they provide in New Jersey. In Pennsylvania, it would not be unheard of for the brand to use those partnerships as well. The company is already teamed up with Betfair and Play Sugarhouse, offering the largest library of online games in NJ including live dealer options.
It is believed that the Golden Nugget will set up a skin with the Sugarhouse brand in Pennsylvania but not confirmed. The brand uses SG Digital for their online gaming offerings, so they should use this same brand in PA as well.
As far as additional options, the Golden Nugget should provide something like their New Jersey offering, providing a loyalty program along with additional incentives such as leaderboard competitions. It would be silly for the brand to do anything different than what they offer in New Jersey as they are seeing massive success.
It is also expected that the PA offering will include live dealer. The Golden Nugget was the first to offer live dealer gaming in New Jersey and they already have a full portfolio of unique options including a live roulette version offered straight from the casino’s gaming floor.
It will certainly be interesting to watch and see what the Golden Nugget ends up offering if they are approved for licensing. We should hopefully find out by the end of this year if the operator is approved to move forward.
