About the Vegas Golden Knights
The Vegas Golden Knights are members of the National Hockey League (NHL) franchise and were first founded in 2017. Las Vegas first dedicated NHL team, they started their inaugural season impressively strong despite the Route 91 Harvest music festival shooting that struck Las Vegas on October 1st, 2017.
In fact, the team being formed during the tragedy helped raised the community spirit in ways the city didn’t expect.
“Having the team in this city during 1 October created a bond for all of us,” said Dena DuBoef-Roth, a Las Vegas local. None of these guys were from Las Vegas, except for one, yet they became one of us. They were not an just NHL expansion team. They were our team.”
They made it all the way to the playoffs in their first season, coming short against the Washington Capitals in their quest for the 2018 Stanley Cup. The Knights continue to work hard and make their fans proud through their dedicated sportsmanship and community efforts.
In the summer of 2019, VGK launched The Knights Assist, which is a community grant program providing aid to various Las Vegas-based nonprofit organizations. The program has provided $50,000 in community grants to five different charities that fall within the Knight’s giving pillars: Health and wellness, education, military, hunger and homelessness, and youth.
Grants are awarded bi-annually through the program, once in the spring and once in the fall.
