Churchill Downs Ready to Enter NJ iGaming Market

Churchill DownsAfter partnering with Golden Nugget and SBTech, Churchill Downs announces plans to launch an online casino in New Jersey.

The New Jersey online gambling industry is booming these days and showing no signs of slowing down. This week, it was announced that, yet another operator is looking to become involved in the online casino side of gaming in the state. Churchill Downs has announced they are working with the Golden Nugget and SBTech in an effort to launch their own online casino in the region. Golden Nugget will be providing the licensing while SBTech will be providing the platform.

Forging New Partnerships

The Golden Nugget is a gaming operator located in Atlantic City that has become synonymous with online gaming. The brand has seen great success, earning $8 million in total online gaming earnings in both April and March. Churchill will be working with the casino to have licensing in order to operate in New Jersey.

Churchill Downs also partnered with SBTech to get started with online gaming. The company will be providing the iGaming platform that will be used, and includes the website for consumers, applications for mobile devices and back-office systems that will be used to manage sports wagering and online gaming offerings.

With this announcement, it marks the first time that Churchill Downs will be investing in online casino gaming. The company already offers online gaming via the website, which is where players have access to online wagering on horse races.

Extending their reach further

Churchill Downs is not only looking to New Jersey to extend their gambling operations, but also Pennsylvania and Mississippi. As part of the deal with SBTech, the two will be working together in these two states as well. In Mississippi, the focus will be on sports wagering. Sports betting may take place in the state by summer and Churchill already owns two land-based casinos in the state.

Harlow’s Casino Resort & Spa as well as Riverwalk Casino Hotel will offer sports betting and Churchill will be working with SBTech to make it so. In Pennsylvania, the two will work together with online casino and sports betting being the focus. Online gambling should launch soon in Pennsylvania and Churchill wants to be ready to offer services.

New Jersey Online Casino Offerings Continue to Increase

Going back to New Jersey, the number of online casinos on offer continues to increase. It is expected that as many as 20 will be in operation before the end of this year. Along with the Churchill Downs offering, Hard Rock Atlantic City and Ocean Resort Casino both have plans to offer online casino gaming. The two will be opening this summer to offer land-based services and online gaming will not be far behind.

On top of the new online casino sites, sports betting will soon be in the mix. With SCOTUS ruling in favor of the state and striking down PASPA earlier this week, New Jersey is already preparing for sports betting. With the online gambling industry already bringing in $20m+ each month, adding in sports betting is only going to help cushion the state’s coffers. There is much money to be made via sports betting and New Jersey will be one of the first states to offer such gaming options in the US thanks to the recent ruling.

Over the next few months, New Jersey will certainly be a state to watch as new online casino sites launch and sports betting gets under way.
