Oregon’s casino industry has been facing difficulties since the mass shutdowns back in March of 2020. Fortunately, more of the casinos here have begun opening their doors recently. New reports surfaced this week claiming that Oregon’s Chinook Winds Casino is set to open its doors to the public once again this week.

This property is one of the most popular gaming venues in the state. Many gambling fans will be happy to hear it is set to become operational again.

Here’s what you need to know about this situation!

The Chinook Winds Casino is Finally Open Again

Oregon is home to 11 different casinos. All of these properties are owned and operated by various Native American Tribes in the state. Since mid-2020, these casinos have been working hard to reach pre-pandemic revenue figures.

Sporadic closures have become common with these properties. Back in early August, the Chinook Winds Casino in Lincoln City was forced to close down due to Covid-19 concerns. It was tentatively scheduled to reopen to the public on August 26.

Infections remained high and the owners decided to delay this opening. Fortunately, gambling fans in the Lincoln City area will not need to wait any longer. This popular casino has finally reopened, albeit with a variety of new Covid measures set in place.

All guests now need to have their temperatures checked prior to entering the casino floor. Masks are required at all times, too. Drinking and eating at table games is no longer required and bar-top service in the lounge areas has been suspended.

It will take time for Oregon’s casinos to feel the way they did prior to 2020. Many are simply happy to have a place to play their favorite casino games. We’ll be sure to offer more information on casino openings and closures here over the next few weeks.

Oregon’s Sports Betting Industry Sees Fluctuating Revenue Figures

The state of Oregon is home to some of the most passionate sporting fan bases in the country. It’s here that several popular professional and college sports teams are located. In August of 2019, sports gambling officially arrived in the state.

Revenue from this industry has fluctuated over the past year. This past July, the state’s sports betting industry experienced another major revenue drop. Overall, gross gaming revenue in the state came out to just $2.2 million.

This represents a 21% decrease when compared to June of 2021. Fortunately, it is a 37.5% increase compared to July of 2020. The total betting handle came out to $18.2 million, with baseball being the most popular sport to wager on over the month.

Most analysts expect that sports betting revenue will surge over the fall months. The 2021/2022 NFL season is set to begin on September 9. This is expected to be the most-wagered-on football season in history.

Oregon’s gambling industry has been growing for years. It will be interesting to see how the casino and sports betting industry fares throughout the rest of 2021.

US Gambling Revenue Continues to Surge Throughout 2021

The United States is home to the largest gaming industry in the world. Most states have at least some form of regulated gambling available. Many now have legal sports betting and casino gambling available.

Not long ago, the American Gaming Association released a report claiming gaming revenue is set to break all-time records in 2021. Both casino revenue and sports betting have been surging. This is expected to continue as the year goes on.

Sports betting around the United States dropped in July. Some states saw larger overall revenue drops than others. It’s not a surprise, of course, as July tends to be the worst month every year for sports betting operators.

Casino revenue surged last July, though. Many of the country’s top casino hubs saw massive increases in their overall revenue figures. In fact, Las Vegas reported its best-ever month in terms of casino revenue by bringing in $794 million.

A Case of the Coronavirus at Wildhorse Casino is Confirmed

Covid-19, the coronavirus that emerged in Wuhan, has now infected individuals in ten states around the US. Health officials are working extremely hard to stop the spread of this deadly new virus. Unfortunately, a new case of the coronavirus at Wildhorse Casino in Oregon has just been confirmed.Image Of Coronavirus

It’s scary news for visitors to this gambling venue. Washington is already being hit extremely hard and some now worry that Oregon is next. Let’s take a look at what we know about the new case at the Oregon casino.

Coronavirus Has Now Spread to 10 States

In a little over two months, the coronavirus has spread from Wuhan China to nearly 70 countries around the world. More than 90,000 individuals have been infected and 3,000 have been killed. Based on the current trend, this situation will get considerably worse before it gets any better.

Health officials claimed it was only a matter of time before the US was hit. This prediction turned out to be true. As we already mentioned, cases of this virus have been recorded in 10 different states around the country. Health officials in various states are preparing for outbreaks.

Around 100 cases have been confirmed in the US. Some of these cases were from individuals flying into the country from infected areas including the Diamond Princess Cruise Ship. Some believe there are significantly more cases that simply haven’t been confirmed yet.

Washington is experiencing the worst outbreak. As of now, it’s unclear exactly how many individuals have been infected here. Some estimate that hundreds of individuals in King County are at risk.

A new case has just been confirmed at an Oregon casino. That’s troubling news, considering the potential for person-to-person spreading inside the gambling venue.

Coronavirus at Wildhorse Casino Has Been Confirmed

With Oregon’s close proximity to Washington, it seemed likely that new cases would begin popping up here. That’s now the case, as an employee at the Wildhorse Casino near Pendleton has tested positive for the virus. Health officials are now trying to find out whether or not any others were infected inside the gambling venue.

The employee, who’s reported to live in Umatilla County, is now receiving treatment in the hospital. Due to the coronavirus at Wildhorse Casino, this venue has been closed and will soon go under a sterilization process. According to reports, the infected individual also attended a youth basketball game.

The Oregon Health Authority released a statement on the situation to the media today.

“State and local health officials are moving quickly to contact people who may have been in close contact with the individual who tested as a presumptive positive case,” the statement said. “The third case is not linked to travel to a part of the world with known cases of COVID-19. It is considered a case of community transmission.”

Casinos pose real dangers for infection spread. The large number of individuals packed into the small area makes it easy for person-to-person transmission. Hopefully, Oregon is able to contain any outbreaks over the next few months.

Oregon’s Sports Betting Industry Continues to Grow

As of March of 2020, more than 20 states have legalized sports betting. That includes Oregon, which legalized this industry back in August of 2019. Initially, only land-based sports betting was available here. In October, online sports gambling became available in the state.

This industry has grown fast here. Millions of dollars are being placed on sports wagers here every single month. Revenue from this industry has slowly climbed since becoming legal.

With the new case of the coronavirus at Wildhorse Casino, some feel the state’s gambling industry may suffer. Gamblers here may start to think twice about playing inside a land-based casino.

It’s not entirely clear how many individuals in Oregon have been infected. Health officials in the state are working to test those who may have been in contact with the Wildhorse Casino employee. We’ll get a clearer picture over the next couple of weeks.

The coronavirus continues to spread around the world. It seems like just a matter of time before one of the country’s major cities is affected. In the meantime, officials are working hard to come up with a vaccine.

Sports Betting in Oregon Set to Launch on August 27th

Another state is officially set to allow sports betting. It’s been confirmed that sports betting in Oregon is launching at the Chinook Winds Casino on August 27th. It’s great news for sports fans throughout the state.

Oregon State Sign

More US states are beginning to embrace the sports betting industry. Today, we’re going to look at the current set of casino and sports gambling laws in Oregon. We’ll also talk about the state’s decision to allow sports betting. Let’s get started!

Gambling Laws in Oregon, Explained

Oregon is thought of as one of the most liberal states in the US. Over the past few decades, lawmakers here have embraced most forms of gambling. Casino-style gambling was legalized in 1992. Today, there are nine land-based casinos in the state, all of which are operated by Native American Tribes.

Sports betting has taken longer to open up here. Oregon is one of the states that was grandfathered into the Federal ban on sports gambling in the early 90s. For decades, the only state legally allowed to offer sports betting in the US was Nevada. This changed in May of 2018 when the US Supreme Court struck down PASPA.

Once this happened, every state had the ability to set laws on the sports gambling industry. Many different states quickly presented sports gambling legislation, including Oregon, which presented a bill to legalize the industry in 2019. Sports betting in Oregon is now legal and is set to launch in a few days.

Unfortunately, Oregon’s laws on internet gambling are restrictive. This is one of the few states that states it’s illegal to accept payments from internet gambling websites. Many analysts feel these laws don’t apply to online casinos in Oregon, as they are based in other countries. Hope is that online casino gambling will become regulated here within the next few years.

Sports Betting in Oregon is Coming to the Chinook Winds Casino

Lawmakers in Oregon realize the huge revenue earning potential from the sports gambling industry. Many states with legal sports betting markets are earning millions of dollars a month from this industry. Politicians here were quick to approve the sports gambling bill presented earlier this year and have been working on plans to officially launch it.

Starting on August 27th, Oregon sports fans can finally begin making wagers on their favorite teams and players. The Chinook Winds Casino, located in Lincoln City, is the first gaming establishment to offer sports betting odds. Over the next several months, more of the land-based casinos in this state are set to begin operating sportsbooks, as well.

Will Roberston, director of casino operations at Chinook Casino, expects the new sportsbook to be a major hit with Oregonians.

“We’re expecting it to be pretty busy,” he said. “There may be lines to get your bets in.”

Interestingly, Oregon is also preparing to launch a state-run online sports betting platform through the lottery. The goal was to have the app up and running by the start of the 2019/2020 NFL season. Based on what’s being said by state officials, this isn’t likely to happen.

Oregon Sports Betting Lottery Gets Delayed

Part of the new sports betting laws in Oregon allow the state to run a lottery that offers sports betting. The lottery will launch an app that’s available throughout the state. Unlike the sportsbook at Chinook Casino, this app will not allow players to bet on NCAA games.

It seems unlikely that this app will be ready by the start of this year’s NFL season. Based on numerous reports, the app won’t launch until mid-September. Lottery spokesman Matt Shelby confirmed this to the media this week.

“It’ will likely be two, three weeks into the season,” Shelby said. “Testing is going fine.”

Shelby also commented on the reason that the app is being delayed. He claims that the lottery needs more time to design interfaces between the games and different payment technologies developed in recent years. Fortunately, online sports betting in Oregon will be completely available for the majority of the football season.

Sports fans in Oregon can begin placing bets on their favorite teams next week. In time, every state may begin offering legal sports gambling options. Make sure to stay tuned for more updates on US sports gambling law changes over the next few weeks!
