Sportsbook

BetMGM announced last week that construction has commenced at its retail sportsbook inside the State Farm Arena in Glendale, home of the NFL’s Arizona Cardinals.

The 16,800 square foot sportsbook is expected to open in time for the start of the 2022 NFL regular season in September.

In a statement, BetMGM CEO Adam Greenblatt said:

“The BetMGM Sportsbook at State Farm Stadium will be one of the most unique and innovative additions to a venue that the sports and entertainment iendustry has ever seen.”

Enhance Game-Day Experience of Cardinals Fans

Greenblatt added that the BetMGM sportsbook at State Farm Stadium will be designed to enhance the game-day experience of Cardinals fans. The two-story facility will be located adjacent to the stadium and will feature a 265-foot video wall, indoor and outdoor dining, and 25 self-service betting kiosks. It will have the capacity to accept up to 500 guests.

Last August, the Cardinals became the first NFL team to announce plans to build a retail sportsbook at their venue. Arizona, Illinois, and the District of Columbia are among the states that allowed professional sports venues to offer sports betting. Prior to the Cardinals announcement, the Phoenix Suns announced that they will be putting up a FanDuel Sportsbook at the Phoenix Suns Arena.

Arizona Sports Betting Market

The Arizona sports betting market launched in April 2021. The state’s law allowed 20 sports betting licenses, each with the ability to offer in-person and online sports wagering services. The first legal sports bet in the state was wagered last September.

So far, six pro sports entities have formed sportsbook operating partnerships. Aside from the Cardinals-BetMGM deal and Suns-FanDuel agreement, the Phoenix Mercury have teamed up with Bally’s while the Arizona Diamondbacks are partners with the Caesars Sportsbook. Meanwhile, the PGA Tour/TPC Scottsdale have an alliance with DraftKings and the Phoenix Raceway joined forces with Barstool Sportsbool.
