The venue also hosts the finest you’ll ever see in live, world-class music and entertainment. Acts like the Beach Boys, Billy Currington, The Fabulous Thunderbirds, and others have entertained thousands at this venue.

Let’s look at a brief history of Indiana gambling, then we’ll go into the casino and discover all of what you can do at Hoosier Park.

Harrah’s Hoosier Park History

The racetrack can trace its roots back to 1990, when Virgil E. Cook donated 110 acres to build a pari-mutuel racing facility in Anderson, Indiana. In 1992, Churchill Downs Incorporated purchased the land from the Anderson group.

As a result, the venue became the first to be owned by Churchill outside the State of Kentucky since 1939. And in 1994, the track opened after four years of planning and seven months of construction.

In 2007, Churchill Downs sold the venue to the Centaur Group for $8.2 million, and shortly after, state legislation permitted slot machines to be installed at racetracks, converting them into what we now know as racinos.

Both Hoosier Park and Indiana Grand Casino were owned by Centaur at the time, and 2,000 slots were installed into each venue. On June 2nd, 2008, the casino portion of the track opened and for the next decade, Centaur continued to own and operate the racino.

Finally, in 2018, Caesars Entertainment stepped in and bought both racinos from Centaur. The venue now offers 92,000 square feet of casino gaming real estate along with its slots, table games, and sportsbook.
