Soaring Eagle Casino is just one of many vibrant locations to get excited about in the Central Michigan city of Mount Pleasant. As a college town, you can be sure that there is plenty to do at nearby Central Michigan University alone.
But what about outside of the university and casino? Oh, there is still plenty to get excited about, even if Mt. Pleasant comprises just a little over 8,000 people. The population doubles when school is in session. And even with the smaller numbers that many consider “village numbers,” Mt. Pleasant is still a prime vacation destination.
And Soaring Eagle Casino is just one piece of a much larger puzzle. Let’s explore the area and discover all there is to do besides gambling in Michigan.
Mt. Pleasant Discovery Museum
This is a great place to visit if you have the kids with you. And even if you are spending much of your time gaming at Soaring Eagle Casino, your kids were probably having a fantastic time over at Kids Quest.
But of course, vacations are also the prime time to spend with the family. With that said, Mt. Pleasant Discovery Museum is an ideal place for the entire family to discover something fresh and have a lot of fun.
It’s an interactive museum where your kids will experience the climbing wall, waterworks, building and launching small rockets, and so much more.
Deerfield Nature Park
Surround yourself in nature over at Deerfield Nature Park! If you are looking for a break from the perpetual casino games at Soaring Eagle, this venue is your next calling.
Here, you will find several picnic areas, four pavilions, a few old school covered bridges, two swing bridges if you dare to cross them, a 591-acre park, 18 miles of hiking and biking trails, two disc-golf courses comprising 18 holes, and more.
Yeah, it might take you a while to get through everything at this park. In fact, prepare to spend a few days here if you take the kids disc golfing or hiking—especially if they dare you to cross those two swing bridges.
And if you are here in the winter and the temperature is threatening to reach below zero, don’t sweat. You probably won’t be sweating if it’s that cold anyway, but there are many cross-country skiing trails, sledding areas, and more winter sports outlets.
So, whether you are gaming at Soaring Eagle Casino in the summer or winter, this fantastic park boasts activities for you to engage in regardless of the time of year.
Are you curious about Native American culture in the Michigan area?
Look no further than the Ziibiwing Center, which will answer many of your questions about the history and culture of Native Americans in the region. Per TripAdvisor, the Ziibiwing Center ranks number one of the top nine things to do in Mt. Pleasant, so you know you are in for a real treat when you visit.
Almost every reviewer on TripAdvisor agrees that a tour of the Ziibiwing Center is the ultimate educational experience. If you are looking for education to go with a bit of fun, check out the Ziibiwing Center.
The exhibits are more than interactive. The staff is among the friendliest and most knowledgeable around. And best yet, reviewers also agree that guests of all ages and interest levels can enter the doors of this venue and gain an educational experience.
If education tops your list of things to do on any vacation, the Ziibiwing Center should rank number one on your itinerary.
Soaring Eagle Waterpark
From casino gaming experiences to educational experiences to fun experiences. Because fun is what hitting the Soaring Eagle Waterpark is all about, right?
Described as a place with room for people of all ages, you are looking at 10 awesome attractions at your disposal. From the FlowRider to Loon’s Loop to private cabanas, you and your family will fall head over heels for a day at the waterpark.
The only real downside appears to be the hotel, which many reviewers per TripAdvisor have panned for its cleanliness. The photos taken by travelers at the hotel appear to back this claim up pretty well, with chipped end tables, old bed linings, and marginally clean restrooms.
However, if you are staying at Soaring Eagle Casino’s resort hotel, you need not worry about the hotel at the waterpark. Reviewers are also in agreement that in the future, they will pass on the hotel and just buy passes for the park itself.
That tells me the park is more than worth the visit, especially with the number of attractions you will get here.
Central Michigan University Theatre
Looking for a solid production while you are in town? Central Michigan University Theatre is where it is happening. No, you probably won’t get a show of professional Broadway actors and actresses. But you are seeing the future at work, plus the hard work that goes into all these collegiate productions.
And having once had the privilege of riding along with a truck driver from a steel warehouse I once worked in, I can tell you firsthand about the amount of work that goes into these collegiate productions, and they are quite the shows—at least given the amount of steel material we delivered.
So, if you are looking for a cost-effective place to take the kids and family for a night out, look no further than the Central Michigan Theatre.
Reviewers describe the check-in as easy, and the shows offered at the theatre are fit for all ages and interest levels. Once again, the Central Michigan Theatre is a phenomenal place for you and the entire family.
Bucks Run Golf Club
Are you an avid golfer? Head over to the Bucks Run Golf Club and you will have a ball at what is the number one ranked outdoor activity per TripAdvisor. They describe employees in the pro shop as outgoing, friendly, and personable.
Designed by Bruce and Jerry Matthews, reviewers also agree that this may just be the greatest Matthews-designed golf course in existence.
And per the photos, you will make a guaranteed bet in terms of scenery, a challenging golf course that ranks right up there with the Bear, Wolverine, and Spruce Run in terms of difficulty.
If you are a competitive golfer, you can also take part in golf outings, tournaments, and other challenging events that you can test your skill against some of the best golfers in the region.
So, if you won a real money poker tournament or two at the tables over at Soaring Eagle Casino, why not try to conquer the area in more than just poker? You will be the next grand champion that challengers all over Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, will look to unseat.
Mountain Town Brewing Company
Alright, so you and the family had a great time on vacation, you won a golf tournament after you aced that poker tournament. Now, it’s time to send the kids back to Kids Quest while you and your group go off to enjoy the greatest local crafts in the area.
Where to? Head on over to the Mountain Town Brewing Company, where you will immerse yourself in perhaps Central Michigan’s finest collection. Ranked second of the eight finest locations to enjoy the area’s nightlife scene, this venue has received a solid 4 of 5 stars per TripAdvisor.
Want the overview? Of course you do! Alright, so you’re looking at the very best local high-quality crafts that include some of the founding craft beers in the State of Michigan. But it isn’t just craft beer you are looking at; you can also treat yourself to a full-service restaurant slash smokehouse to add some food to the brew.
They also serve wine, so if beer isn’t your thing, Lady Luck is still with you when you head over to the Mountain Town Brewing Company. So, hop inside, crack one open, and indulge in your favorite pub food. It’s a fantastic way to complete your casino trip.
These seven activities are only a sliver of the number of activities to do in Central Michigan. It’s funny, because many view Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, as nothing more than a college town given its location to Central Michigan University.
But there’s plenty to do for those over 21; ditto for Soaring Eagle Casino. So, don’t worry about bringing the entire family along, slapping the above activities onto a vacation itinerary just like Danny Tanner from Full House would have done. Yeah, it’s that 1990s nostalgia moment.
So, have you gamed at Soaring Eagle Casino? If so, did you visit any of the above locations or did you hit up others? Let us know in the comments and tell us about your experience. We are always looking forward to hearing from you.
